Welcome to Mount Sterling Elementary. Our theme this year is “MSE’s Got Game.” The 2018-19 school year brings about many changes for Montgomery County and for MSE. In addition to redistricting and newly added grade levels and groups, MSE welcomes several new staff members.
We’d like to take the opportunity to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Tyson Steelman. Tyson comes to us from Fayette County, where he gained a wealth of knowledge in the areas of science and curriculum as well as holding many leadership roles. We’d also like to welcome to our family, Preschool teacher Melanie Kelley and her assistant Misty Sowder and Preschool teacher Sierra Friend and her assistant Lauren McCoy. Additionally, we welcome to MSE, Mrs. Sarah Schwoebel, Mrs. Candace Amburgey, Ms. Brittany Hunley and Ms. Hannah Lockhart. We are very excited to welcome these new members to our MSE family.
With the addition of Preschool and Head Start, there will be some changes at MSE. All Head Start families will enter through the entrance closest to Botts Park. The small parking lot will be dedicated to our Head Start staff and families.
We will continue our normal pick up and drop off procedures at MSE. With the newly adjusted elementary schedule, K- 5th grade students will get off of the buses at 7:05, drop off will begin at 7:15 and the tardy bell will ring at 7:45. Free breakfast will be served from 7:15-7:45.
Mount Sterling Elementary will continue our rich tradition of being a student’s first school. We pride ourselves on educating the whole child and fostering character education along with servant leadership. With that being said, we will continue our monthly service learning projects with our first one beginning in August. Along with these traditions, we will be adding some new projects to our school. One that we are very excited to announce is our teaming up with the Terf Project in the spring to plant vegetable gardens on our campus. Ms. Tonia Witt worked with Mapleton Elementary on this project last year and we are excited to be the next school to implement this program.
MSE will also be teaming with Mapleton and the Girls on the Run organization to host a 10-week long running club that provides character education lessons for girls in 3rd-5th grade. The team will be coached by myself, Mrs. Cindy Reed and Mrs. Beverly McCormick McDonald. There will be more information coming out to parents soon.
MSE has been working diligently over the summer to improve our Accelerated Reader program to provide more motivation and rewards for our students. We are excited to roll out a new plan for this amazing program.
We look forward to new beginnings, a fresh start and some fresh, new faces at MSE. As always, our doors are open. Please feel free to stop by anytime.
