Principal's Message

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Montgomery County Accelerated STEM Academy, MC², I am delighted to welcome you to the upcoming 2020-21 school year!  We are looking forward to meeting the incoming 7th grade class as well as seeing our returning students in grades 8-12.  We are very excited about the educational prospects we are offering our students for this school year!

MC² 7th and 8th grade students will again be exclusively served at McNabb Middle School so as to ensure they have full access to the many activities and experiences unique to the middle school years.  McNabb Middle School Principal, Ms. Brandy Holley, will oversee the MC² program for our 7th and 8th graders, where academy students will receive high quality instruction in math, science, and STEM, as well as in English-language arts, social studies, and their elective/ enrichment courses.  Moreover, MC² middle school students will again have the opportunity to experience and complete course work in the STEM-related fields of agriculture, coding, graphic design, astronomy, and computer science.

MC² students in grades 9-12 are taught on the campus of Montgomery County High School and will again be offered several career pathway choices through MCHS and/or our Area Technology Center from STEM-related fields such as animal science, engineering and technology design, digital design and game development, nursing, and web design to name only a few.  MC² students are required to select and declare a career pathway prior to the beginning of their 10th grade year and must attain completer status prior to graduation.  Academy students will have full access to a wide array of Advanced Placement and Dual Credit course offerings in the core areas of math, science, English, and social studies, as well as in several elective areas.

The core MC² staff at McNabb is comprised of veteran MC² ELA teacher Ms. Kim Barnes, veteran math teacher Ms. Arleen Vice who will teach middle school Algebra I and Geometry, and science teacher Mr. Stephen Burke who will once again be teaching engineering, and 7th grade and 8th grade science.  Ms. Kim Barnes will again serve in the role of advisor to MC² 9th grade students as they transition from middle school to high school and to aspiring sophomores who choose to apply Morehead State University’s Craft and/or Western Kentucky University’s Gatton prestigious academies.  Ms. Barnes will teach Honors English 1 at McNabb and Honors English 2 at MCHS.

In closing, we are once again looking forward to a productive partnership with your family this school year to ensure that each child experiences success as we strive to provide each student with a world-class, 21st Century education.  We recognize and thank you for the support each of you, as parents and/or guardians, provide for your children at home so as to ensure their success at school.

On behalf of the wonderful staff at the Montgomery County Accelerated Academy, McNabb Middle School, and Montgomery County High School, I look forward to serving your child during the upcoming year as we continue to endeavor to offer one of the top STEM programs in Kentucky.  Thank you again for your children and for your support, be safe, and enjoy the remainder of your summer!
