The Montgomery County School System will break new ground with an intensive two-day learning experience for K-12 teachers throughout the region this summer. The sessions will be held on June 6th and 7th from 8:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. at the Montgomery County Intermediate School, 1040 Maysville Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Kindergarten Literacy Celebration Posted On: Monday, April 29, 2013

More than 200 kindergarten students from Camargo Elementary, Mt. Sterling Elementary, and Mapleton Elementary joined together at the MCHS Arena on Friday, April 26th for a kindergarten celebration of literacy. Students participated in reading activities including meeting with book characters, group reading, and singing/dancing. Every child received the book, Pete the Cat. The event would not have been possible without the generosity of the Montgomery County Education Foundation Jay Stilz Memorial Fund, other community sponsors, and volunteers.

The Montgomery County Orchestra program will be presenting its Stringapalooza event on Friday, May 3rd from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Montgomery County High School cafeteria. MSE SBDM and PTO Elections

Letters concerning Site Based Decision Making Elections and nomination ballots will be sent home next week. Nomination ballots will be collected until Friday, April 22. The election will take place on Friday, April 26. Please watch your child’s backpack for this important information.

Open elections for PTO officers will be held on May 14 at the PTO meeting. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria at 6:30 PM.

Calipari Camp Returning to the District Posted On: Tuesday, April 09, 2013

The Calipari Satellite Tour Camp will once again include a stop in Montgomery County -June 12th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. There is a cost for the camp, which is for students in grades K-12. MSE Dairy Queen Night was a huge success. We had over 200 students visit DQ and we had over 30 MSE staff that volunteered from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday, March 19. Mrs. Rose’s Kindergarten class had the most students visit DQ and they will receive an ice cream cake party to celebrate that accomplishment. We would like to thank all the students and their families for supporting MSE and joining us at DQ.

STLP State Competition Posted On: Friday, March 29, 2013

Groups from each of the schools participated in State STLP competition on March 28th. Results were:

MSE - Jordan McVey placed third in digital art graphic design. The judge also awarded the computer science teams - Mason Hammond, J. T. Woosley, Jacob Webb and Alexandra Williams - with certificates for a job well done.

MCIS (pictured) - Becca Swartz, Dawson Jones, and Courtney Elliott placed 1st in KSU GIS Maps. Landon Clay Palmer placed 2nd in Photo On Demand.

MCHS - The MCHS Team of "Fuel Cells, The Fuel of the Future," composed of Clay Turner, David Gibson, Shaugn Ooijkaas, and Luke Hart placed in the Top 20 of more than 200 teams in the Showcase, which is the premier event. Luke "Ethan" Hart received the Cyber Defense Scholarship for $1,000. Jasmine Brady placed 2nd in Web Page Design.

There will be NO SCHOOL in Montgomery County Schools on Wednesday, March 13th. The girls basketball team will be competing in the Sweet Sixteen Basketball Tournament in Bowling Green. The team will play Ashland Blazer at 1:30 (2:30 p.m. EST) If the girls win on Wednesday, the team will play on Friday at noon. (11:00 a.m. EST) There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 15th due to KEA Day.

Rachel Blevins was the MSE representative at the State Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 23 at UK’s Singletary Center. Rachel competed in the state spelling bee with 27 other participants and Rachel placed 9^th representing MSE very well! Participants ranged from third to eighth grade. Stumping the spellers were such words as seersucker, giraffe, prescription, potash, formidable, panzer and hurricane. Way to go Rachel!

Montgomery County Schools will be dismissed ONE HOUR EARLY on Friday, March 1st due to the boys regional basketball tournament. Boys are scheduled to play Bishop Brossart at Mason County at 5:00 p.m. The early release will allow our bus drivers to run their routes and also ensure that players, coaches, students and staff are able to be transported to Mason Co. safely.

If you plan to sign up to play sports through the Parks & Recreation Department, please be advised that sign-ups for t-ball, baseball and softball are going on February 25 - March 16th online at www.msmcparksandrec.com or in person at the City Pool. SAFETY & SECURITY NOTICE:

Our community has joined the nation in expressing our grief and outrage over recent events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. In a proactive response, the Montgomery County School System, including the Montgomery County School District Police Department, has united with City and County law enforcement to reevaluate and strengthen security procedures in our school district.

We hope that you will feel more secure, and certainly that you will not be alarmed, when you see an increased police presence in our schools. We also request your patience and ask that you not take offense if you are subjected to a more rigid screening process when entering one of our facilities.

We will continue to offer the best customer service possible, but cannot and will not be lax when it comes to the safety and protection of our children and staff.

Migrant Family Night Posted On: Tuesday, November 27, 2012      Migrant Family Fun night is scheduled for Friday, November 30th at the Early Learning
     Center. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. This event is for students and families who
     are currently enrolled in Montgomery County Schools' Migrant Education Program. The
     Montgomery County Fire Dept. will present fire safety information followed by the
     Wulfe Brothers concert. The night will end with pizza and refreshments along with
     student attendance awards.

Authentic Parent Engagement Training Posted On: Monday, November 26, 2012      Authentic Parent Engagement Training presented by the Prichard Committee is
     scheduled for Friday, November 30th at the First Church of God Youth Center from
     8:00-3:30 pm. Parent volunteers and Family Resource Center staff will collaborate

     schools and community.

Dear Parents,

     Grandparents and other older adults can be very important people in children’s lives. Children feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when they know that people in their extended family and community are interested in their education. Grandparent/Grandfriend’s Day, September 9th, recognizes the importance of our heritage, our community, and relationships across generations. So, we’re having a special celebration! We are celebrating all month by inviting the grandparents of our students to have lunch here at MSE. We will host Kindergarten on September 14, First and Third grades on September 21, and Second and Fourth grades on September 28. This event is intended for children and their grandparents/step grandparents or a special “grandfriend.”
     Sorry – our space is limited, so parents and siblings cannot attend this event.
We understand that all children don’t have grandparents, and that some grandparents will be unable to attend. We encourage these children to bring another special older adult – a family friend, other relative. Some children are also happy to share their grandparent with a classmate.

We ask you to:
1.    Give the enclosed information sheet to the grandparent(s) or grandfriend you’re inviting.
2.    Complete the enclosed RSVP form. Please print clearly – we need the information to make name tags. You can return the form to school with your child. You may also include $3 per adult lunch and we will have a lunch ticket ready when you pick up your name tag.   We MUST receive the RSVP no later than Friday, September 7th.

     Please help avoid last minute confusion, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings by following these requests.

     If your child has a grandparent who cannot attend the event, please ask them to write a note to their grandchild and put it in a sealed envelope for the child to open and read on Grandparent/Grandfriend’s Day. Grandparents can mail the note directly to the school or pass it along through you. In this way, grandparents can still participate in the event with their grandchildren.

     Grandparent/Grandfriend’s Day is a special day for both young and old. Thank you for your cooperation in making the event a success and a positive, memorable experience for your child!
