WELCOME TO 5th GRADE AT MCIS!

My name is Mrs. Sizemore and I will be your 5th grade homeroom and math teacher this year! I am so excited to get to know you, but first let me tell you a little bit about myself so you can get to know me!  This will be my fourth year at MCIS and I am very excited to share it with you! I graduated from Transylvania University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I am currently working on my Master’s Degree and will graduate this December from Georgetown College in Teacher Leadership, with an Endorsement in Literacy.  I was born and raised in Lexington, KY and currently reside there with my husband Evan, and our dog Lily. 5th grade is a special year, and I am very excited to share our year together at MCIS!

In my classroom, I believe each student is a unique individual desiring a safe and stimulating learning environment. Students will come to me at different academic levels and with different preferred learning styles. I will develop a relationship with each child so I can determine students’ strengths, weaknesses, and goals for what they want to achieve. Students will work individually, within small groups, and in a whole group in my classroom. It is important students attend school daily, come prepared to learn, and participate in class. I hold high expectations (both behaviorally and academically) in my classroom and I expect my students to try their best every day.

Students may begin arriving at school at 7:15 each morning. Students will be dismissed to the classrooms at 7:50 and attendance/announcements will take place at 8:20. Our day will begin promptly at 8:30, so please make sure to have your child here on time! Our instructional time is very important and each minute lost will contribute to your student falling behind! I am looking forward to getting to know your child this year and I will do whatever I can to help them be successful in my classroom.

To establish a school-home relationship, we will communicate through the student agenda books and send home One-Calls weekly to notify you of upcoming assessments, assignments, and events.  If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to email me at: courtney.sizemore@montgomery.kyschools.us! Together, we can make this year successful!
