My name is Kayla Epperson, and I am a 5th grade reading and writing teacher here at MCIS. I am honored to be a part of such a wonderful school where the students truly are the focus and priority. I strive to make learning student-centered and believe students learn best when given the opportunity to explore and discover on their own with just the right amount of support and scaffolding. I have very high expectations for all of my students, both behaviorally and academically. I know, without a doubt, that each student can meet these goals with hard work and dedication. In my classroom, we incorporate a lot of whole-group, small-group, and paired activities but also work individually when necessary. We certainly like to have fun while we learn!
I graduated from Morehead State University in the fall of 2012 with a degree in Elementary Education. I also earned my Masters Degree through the Univeristy of the Cumberlands as part of the Literacy Specialist program. I have two children, Kaiden and Kali Grace, and they keep me quite busy! If you are ever in my classroom, chances are you will hear stories about some of the funny stuff they do. I love to be outdoors, and I also enjoy watching sports, spending time with family and friends, and shopping.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I value parent-teacher communication and look forward to hearing from you!
It's going to be a wonderful year!
