Dear Preschool Families,

On behalf of preschool staff at both the Early Learning Center and Camargo Site, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year! It is my hope that you have filled the summer months with new experiences, some adventures, and lots of family fun! Childhood memories like these, will last a lifetime. Our team understands the importance of nurturing teachable moments with our young students and providing them with quality learning experiences.  As another school year begins, we are very excited about the memories we will create in our program. We also look forward to building strong partnerships with our parents and community. We value your commitment and willingness to assist our young students in attaining a successful start.  This strong educational foundation is their beginning towards future success!

It is my pleasure to lead such a dedicated group of educators and support staff and I am very proud to announce that our preschool sites have been recognized as a 5 star rated programs! This is a reflection of the commitment to excellence our staff has adopted. Currently, our team is diligently preparing for the upcoming school year. We are anxiously awaiting to meet our new students and parents. This school year, our program will see only minor changes in staffing. Our newest staff members will enhance the strong team we already have in place. Returning students, will be greeted by the familiar faces they have grown accustomed to seeing on a daily basis.  Excitement is growing throughout our buildings, as our start date quickly approaches.

The design of our program will also remain very familiar to our families. We will continue to offer a variety of enrollment options for our eligible students with limited tuition opportunities at both preschool locations. MCELC preschool students will attend Monday through Thursdays.  Fridays will be reserved for our staff to conduct mandatory home visits, academic meetings with parents, common planning, as well as complete other state required tasks/ trainings. These professional practices will provide the level of excellence we desired for our preschool program and the students enrolled. In an effort to accommodate parents, our preschool program has collaborated with the district childcare program to address your childcare needs. Please contact district childcare for an application and additional information about service offerings and childcare assistance. These include before and after school childcare, Friday childcare, and summer childcare.

Our school year will also target instructional goals which support student growth towards kindergarten readiness. We will be fully implementing Frog Street Press Curriculum and will supplement learning with other student curriculums and materials. All are designed to improving student literacy and language development in the areas of reading, math, and science as well as increasing parent and community involvement/engagement. As a team, we will continue our work in addressing effective instructional strategies, intentional curriculum planning, and consistent communication of student growth. Parents will be provided with our curriculum framework for the school year and provided a variety of opportunities to engage in student learning through workshops and events.

Lastly, we invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering or attending/ supporting school events. We will have information available during open house, if you are interested in this worthwhile opportunity. To foster effective parent communication, staff will also be sending information home through a variety of communication options.  Parents can expect to see options that include: school event flyers, school/classroom newsletters, one calls, parent meetings/conferences, anda variety of media resources.  Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to inquire at 859-497-8724. We are always happy to assist our families.

In closing, I am truly honored to serve as preschool program coordinator. I am eager to begin the new school year and feel very fortunate to work with such a talented group of educators and support staff.  Our staff looks forward to greeting our families from last year and meeting our new students and parents during our open house events and future parent events.  It is our goal to build a strong partnership that will benefit each and every child enrolled in our program.

Sincerely,

Leslee Toy,

Preschool Coordinator
