Welcome to 2nd grade at Mt. Sterling Elementary!
Hey There!!! My name is Graceanne Miller. I am a 2nd grade teacher at Mt. Sterling Elementary School. This is my 18th year of teaching, and YES, that makes me pretty old! I was born and raised in Montgomery County and plan to keep it that way. I am very proud that I am able to teach in the same school system where I received my education. I tell my students all of the time, "I probably went to school with your parents, uncles, or aunts, and most definitely had your older brothers and sisters in my class".
I have a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education with an English component and a Master's Degree in elementary education. I've taught every subject in elementary school, but am SO EXCITED to be teaching 2nd grade again this year!! It is definitely a huge change from intermediate, but I LOVE it.
I don't want to bore you with too much information about me, because I know you are wondering what I'm going to do for your kids. First of all, let me say to you that I am a teacher because it is my firm belief that ALL children in the United States of America should have a quality education. Equally important to me, is my belief that the elementary school experience is what "makes or breaks" a student's attitude toward education in many cases. In my classroom, I will be using Standards Based Grading. My style of teaching is such that when a student does not master a concept, I reteach using small group interventions to reach every student, every day. If this has not been your educational experience in the past, then get ready for sparks to fly, because you are in for an exciting, fun-filled year of learning.
At any point during the school year, don't hesitate to contact me using the information above. Simply put, I am here for my students and their families because that's my job.
