Kindergarten Reading

Whole group reading time will give students an introduction to our concepts in a mixed-abillity setting. All students will also receive small group, guided reading instruction. Students will be placed into flexible groups according to their skill levels. This this allows us to better meet the individual needs of each student and has postivie results.

We will begin the year by reviewing letters and sounds. Students will also begin working on mastering their first list of sight words!  
By the end of the year, kindergarten students are expected to be reading on at least an independent Level C and should know at least 100 sight words.  Students will also be able to write a short story consisting of at least 3 sentences.
