Description:
MCHS Concert Orchestra (4th period B day 2:00 PM- 3:30 PM) is offered to entering 9th grade Orchestra students and 10th-12th grade students as a continuation for students with previous orchestral experience. Educational emphasis is placed on the advancement of instrumental technique, further development of music reading and comprehension skills, independent musicianship, style, and a deeper understanding of small group ensemble music, and orchestral literature. Literature will contain both Classical and Popular music. Students will perform both in small group ensemble projects and as a large group.

MCHS Chamber Orchestra (4th period A day 2:00 PM- 3:30 PM) is offered to students who have been accepted based on audition only. Emphasis will be on the development of left hand dexterity, major and minor three octave scales and arpeggios, advanced bowing techniques, upper positions, vibrato, performance of orchestral literature in combination with wind and percussion players, small ensemble playing, and opportunities for solo performance in front of an audience. In addition, the Chamber Orchestra students are required to prepare the audition material for the KMEA All-State Orchestra and KMEA All District Orchestra. Chamber Orchestra students are also required to prepare solos for KMEA Solo & Ensmeble Festival.
 
MCHS Symphony Orchestra will perform in cooperation with the MoCo Band and students will be selected by interest and effort shown in daily lessons.

    7.     I can evaluate performances of music from different times and places showing an understanding of the techniques and style of the piece, awareness of different roles, and appropriate levels of skill and sensitivity to the overall effect.
     
    8.      I can perform music literature at the DISTINGUISHED Level as indicated by the KMEA Performance Assessment Rubric.
