5th and 6th Grade Athletics

Throughout the state of KY, Middle School is generally regarded as grades 6-8. Since McNabb was 6-8 in the past and 6th grade students participated in several conference sports, 6th graders will still be permitted to try out for sports that allowed it in the past. These sports include:

Girls Basketball
Boys Basketball
Wrestling
Cheerleading
Soccer
Softball
Baseball
Track
Volleyball (NEW this Winter)

The only exception is Football, in which 6th graders are not permitted to participate.

In regard to 5th Graders participating in McNabb Middle School Athletics:

Per the Montgomery County Board of Education Eligibility Policy 09.313, Elementary students (up to 5th grade) may participate in
NON –CUT sports by means of a parent request and approval by the Administration.  NON-CUT sports are generally Cross County, Track and Wrestling.  However, we realize this may vary year to year given the number of students that try out for a particular sport.

If a 5th Grade Student’s Parents wish for their child to participate in a McNabb Middle School Athletic Program that is a CUT sport, the parent will need to follow the Eligibility Appeal Process that is outlined in Montgomery County Board of Education Eligibility Policy 09.313.  The Administration of the Intermediate School and McNabb Middle School, the Coaches and the AD will follow the policy guidelines to make a decision on whether to approve or deny the request.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Administration of the Intermediate School or McNabb Middle School.  Thank you.
