Vocabulary

avenue - a street, sometimes wide or bordered with trees

ducklings - young ducks

nest - a structure built by birds as a place in which to lay their eggs

pool - a small pond; small body of still water

splash - to cause water to fly about so as to wet or soil

spring - the season between winter and summer

brooded - sat on eggs in order for them to hatch

commotion - a violent movement; confusion; disturbance

dori - Japanese word meaning "street" or "avenue"

proceeded - went on after having stopped

traffic - people, automobiles, trucks, airplanes, ships, or the like coming and going along a way of travel
