Both Montgomery County Mock Trial teams finished in the top ten in Kentucky at the state tournament this past weekend in Covington.
The Blue team came in 5th place in the state while the Red team came in 8th. The Blue team won 3-0 against the previously-undefeated regional champion Fort Thomas Highlands while the Red Team was the only team all season to take a ballot from the eventual state-champion, Notre Dame Academy.
Several team members won awards for outstanding attorney or witness. The Red team's Hayden Shepherd and Brianna Bryant, both juniors, won for best attorneys while senior Allen Reed and junior Sara Larison won awards for best witnesses. The Blue team's Addy Holley and Shayna Garrett, both sophomores, won for best attorney while sophomores Maggie Fegenbush and Alexandra Williams won for best witnesses. Maggie Fegenbush also received a prestigious Top-10 Best Witness award out of 96 participants.
Montgomery was also chosen as the recipient of the Professional and Civility Award. This was voted on by all the other competing teams, and they chose Montgomery as the team demonstrating the most professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect for the competition.
