  • TRIBE Day on 8/21/17

Montgomery County Schools will be closed for students on Monday, August 21st, 2017, and this day will be a non-traditional instruction day (TRIBE Day).  This decision was made with a focus on student safety after reviewing our transportation routes and times during the eclipse, discussing possible scenarios with our insurance agents, and monitoring decisions made by other school districts across the state.  The use of a Non-Traditional Instruction day provides a way for our families to best determine how they, as a family, want to experience the eclipse.

Through generous donations by the Montgomery County Education Foundation and Dr. Richard Henry at Henry Dental, all of our students will receive solar viewing glasses.  These will be sent home on Friday with our students along with eclipse-themed TRIBE Day materials and safety information about the eclipse for our families.  Even though schools are closed on this day, students will need to work on the eclipse-themed TRIBE Day lessons at home.  No assignments will require students to view the eclipse as that is up to you as families to discuss and determine if and how that would take place.

Daycare will be available on Monday, August 21st from 5:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Early Learning Center and MSE.   If possible, we encourage our families to try to avoid picking up their children during the eclipse times (between 1:03 p.m. and 3:54 p.m.) as we are unsure how traffic in the community may be affected.

  • Newport Aquarium Field Trip

Dear Sterling School Parents and Guardians,

This Friday, March 3rd, we will be taking students on a field trip to the Newport Aquarium. They will be participating in the Backstage Animal Experience, which is a guided tour of the facility that will give them a “behind the scenes” view of things like how the animals are cared for and how water quality is determined. Travel time for the trip will be almost two hours one way. We are hopeful that this will be an enjoyable and educational experience for your student. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Sterling School office at 859-497-8761.

    Sincerely,

    The Sterling School Staff
